A Tiny Sliver of Light
Dear friend,
It’s rained non-stop for two days and nights here in the Italian countryside. Last night at midnight Chiara and me were in the little orchard with umbrellas and a phone for light, working out how to open the rainwater tanks to prevent them from overflowing.
Wet branches, muddy clover and a system of valves and piping we have no experience with, the rain rat-a-tat-tatting on our sodden umbrellas. It was fun, breathing and flowing with the moment. I’m learning more and more to trust in the intelligence within and all around me.
We worked it out.
Earlier we’d been to dinner with old university friends of Chiara’s.
They’ve a property for sale that isn’t shifting so I showed them a process I teach friends and clients in such situations.
I learned it from Louise Hay.
You use the urgency of the situation to focus your attention on the outcome you want.
What you want—you write out as a short written statement.
For their situation it goes something like this:
“I see us with the perfect buyers for our property. They love the apartment and happily pay our asking price. The sale completes smoothly, quickly and easily. They are happy and so are we, and everyone involved. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
You repeat the statement to yourself several times before bed, and the same on awakening.
In these pressured situations the mind has a habit of fixating on what might go wrong. Don’t ignore the worry, explore it. Take action where action can be taken, but rather than looping round and round in repetitive thought, come back to your statement. Repeat it and focus on the outcome you are affirming. Use the power of your intention to train your mind on what you want.
Like dropping a stone in a pond the energy of your thoughts will ripple out and those looking for what you are offering will find you.
Your brain will be more alert to opportunities.
I’ve been around this information for so long now it seems obvious to me and yet, I forget to do this myself. That’s the messiness of being human and why we need each other.
To remember.
It’s a subtle process.
Highly practical.
And it reduces anxiety because it gives you a foothold when events feel overwhelming or out of control.
Despite the chaos in the world and the thrashing of the false self—I see peace.
More and more of us awakening to connection and kindness and living in harmony with our soul’s purpose.
But don’t take my word for it; here’s St Paul writing from prison:
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Till tomorrow
