Go Deep to Go High
Dear friend,
I got a crack in my windshield, and in the UK that’ll have your car fail its MOT. The beauty of having a small, economical car is that it’s not going to break the bank to get the refit done.
But when things go wrong with physical things—cars, bodies—I get a feeling like I’ve done something wrong, like it’s my fault. Mostly though, even when we’re facing more serious problems than a crack in some glass, there’s more going right than wrong—and I don’t have an instinct to claim merit for what’s working out, quietly in the background.
The car needs a repair, but the sun is shining, pouring life-giving energy into our world, my heart is beating, and I can hear the birds singing. Universities and hospitals are being defunded, but they’re also full of people learning to care for the sick or find new solutions to the complex challenges we’re facing.
Every day, countless acts of kindness and care go undocumented—certainly they pass under the radar of a social media biosphere fine-tuned to outrage and shock.
Go deep to go high.
Get to know yourself.
We’re enmeshed in failing systems and too quick to imagine we are weak or foolish—but if you look from a different place, you’ll see that we are persisting through storms of disinformation and emotional landscapes that are churning beneath our feet.
Is it any wonder doubt and insecurity are rife?
I like to think in threes.
The magic number.
Three practices that take us deeper:
– Forgiving others for their mistakes.
– Gratitude for what’s here now.
– Regular meditation.
They’re all free.
Together they lead higher, where the air tastes sweet.
Go deep.
To go high.
Till tomorrow,
Love
Mikey
