Dear friend,
The children from the primary school at the end of our road are in the playground, their excited voices mix with the sound of the crows and the wind. Beyond their voices the wailing of sirens, police vehicles and ambulances.
One of the things I love about the city is you feel the energy of it all around you. The pace of life is quick. You enter into it and it sweeps you along like a river. The planet spinning through space. The universe in constant motion. We need to make time to be still. To slow down the mind, allowing it to settle. Feeling the beating of your own heart, the inflow and release of the breath. Like a pool of water, a few moments of stillness are required to allow the ripples and the waves to settle.
When we do this a feeling of wellbeing arises naturally from within.
We live such busy lives, with our technology so close and personal. A ceaseless flow of information and distraction. You can feel like you’re running but getting nowhere. The practice of being still is an essential skill. Letting the world be as it is, even for a handful of minutes, will serve you well.
You don’t need to make it complicated. Sitting or walking or lying down, feel the tension in your body and give yourself permission to relax.
Our lives are lived in one endless present moment.
Stillness is the door through which we enter.
There are 1440 minutes in a day.
Often we feel like we cannot give a single one of them to quietness, is that really true? Five minutes of conscious breathing works out as less than one percent of a day.
Looking at the numbers it seems far fetched to buy into the idea that there is no time for reflection.
We come here to know ourselves as the still eternal presence within. It’s here, beneath the surface.
Just one conscious breath is better than none.
Whether at home or work or in transit we can step out of the hustle of the mind and into the power of being present.
Let the world go, it’s been here a long time and will continue to exist for as long as we need it.
Till tomorrow
Love
Mikey
