Dear Friend,
Writing to you every day like this is having some unexpected consequences. I’m coming to blogging fairly late so for anyone who’s been online since it’s early days, this might sound rather mundane, but for me it’s quite revelatory.
So the big reveal?
Probably Mam’s gift to me on her birthday, is that I’m just me. It’s okay to be me.
All of the stuff I do and think and feel, happens in me. What I am, what we all are, is embodied spirit, and that’s a mystery and a miracle.
To speak so of oneself smacks of egotism, but it is our ego that identifies with our physical form and the contents of our mind.
Coming out as spiritual to all of my friends, not just some. I guess that’s the heart of it.
There is so much freedom in dropping identification with a limiting role. Or roles.
Free to be ourselves. To breathe. To discover what it means to be triune creatures. Mind, body and spirit.
Rational materialism was presented to my generation as if it was the only reasonable way to think and feel and be. Mind and body only. That the individual consciousness of the watcher affects the material world was overlooked. Despite it’s place in mainstream science, the observer effect was just not spoken of in the classroom. To speak of consciousness, awareness, presence, all were off the agenda.
My love for Jesus, was quaint and naive. Old fashioned and out of place. I certainly couldn’t connect with Christianity in any form it was offered.
Hearing angels. Visions. Shared death experiences, encounters with gurus and teachers from many faiths, spiritualists, shaman, I played it all down. I still do.
Spirit is simply who we are.
Individual souls. Unique human beings. We are not statistics, neither can we be average. Average is an accountancy term, it relates to numbers not living beings.
The solutions to the problems facing our world and all of the beings we share her with have a spiritual element that is foundational.
Just to believe in peace, to practice meditation, to be kind, to make eye contact and say a word to our neighbours, to our sisters and brothers. To seek common ground. These are not small things. To listen so that people feel heard and to be still, to go inside and discover our connection to the creative power behind and beyond the material universe.
We are spiritual beings and that’s an individual thing. Unique to all.
What a wonderful paradox. Unique and common to all.
Call it by any name that resonates with you.
If I were concerned with status and power and knew how to manipulate the apparatus of state to meet my desires, I’d want to steer people away from connecting with this power and with one another.
Our power is in our direct relationship with the energy out of which our physical universe emerges. There is a unity that has nothing to do with conformity.
It is our shared identity as spirit.
In the world.
Not of it.
May your day be blessed.
Till tomorrow
Love
Mikey
