What You Most Need to Hear
Dear friend,
The first time I heard of anyone publishing a daily blog, it was Seth Godin.
I’ve subscribed to him for years. There are times when I open up an email from Seth and it’s exactly what I most needed to hear in that moment.
The interesting thing about it is, he says he often writes exactly what he most needs to hear in any given moment.
It’s not that he’s talking from the viewpoint of someone who has it all worked out. That kind of self-confidence would be deeply attractive right now, with the world feeling so uncertain.
Who can be confident about the way things will turn out? This being a time of transition, where things we thought impossible are happening. Old structures are crumbling in the pudgy fingers of men who never grew.
Empty men.
Seth tells stories.
Of course, we’re going to choose stories of hope and connection. We need our courage. Now where was I when I saw it last?
Maybe writing like this to you.
Or forgiving a personal shortcoming.
Mine or another’s.
What difference does it make?
Forgive another and you are the one laying down the burden.
Forgive yourself and you are learning.
We’re much more likely to make better decisions from a place of connection, grounded in the certainty that whatever happens, we’ll rise to the challenge.
It will be alright.
It already is alright when we relax and look around and find a smell. Maybe the wet mud. Or the sound of sparrows in the hedge making their symphony. Bobbing their tails on the black guttering as you walk by.
A jar full of muesli. Dried chickpeas.
Books on shelves.
Abundance all around.
Friendships.
Seth says it will change you.
To reach out every day and put something someplace it can be found.
How it changes you I can’t say, other than it does.
I’m certain of it.
Where this is going, I cannot know.
Maybe that’s the best bit about life.
You just never know where it will lead us.
How about we set our sights on home.
Coming home to love?
Worthy of it.
For no reason.
What
so
ever.
Till tomorrow
Love
Mikey
